Re: Identifying a 1951 convertible

Some news:
The seller found the original VIN. It reads 2469 ...
Trim code 696, paint code T which should be ivory. So the car was repainted in more or less the correct color.
Engine is 327 CID. (No engine code)
Top is not working on hydraulics any more, but the pump seems to be still in place.

Seems like the bonnet and grille were replaced long time ago, maybe after an accident?

Any ideas how much fully working hydraulic gears for the hood might cost? Are they still available (used)?

Keeping everything in mind the seller's proposed price seems to be rather high (but we are in Europe, Prices are quite different from US prices...)

What price would I have to expect in the US?

Regards,
Clemens

Ok, well for starters I'll have
Who, What, When and Where,
and then Whither, Whether, Whence and Wherefore to follow
and one big sideorder of Why.

... and the parts list please

Wow!
4 Pictures and a wealth of information is coming.

I'd never have noticed the stitching ...
The head lamp rings struck me for beeing a little odd, but I thought it was due to the European head lamps installed.

Body panel gaps are not the very best, and here and there are some hints of a plasterer remodeling panels (didn't check with a magnet though).

VIN starts quite clearly with 2454 ... (which can't be true).
Maybe there will be some additional information from the seller to clarify this ...

Clemens

Thank you for your advice Ross.

Seats and interior are really nice and clean, but digital camera and artificial lights are playing tricks ...
This picture comes closer to the real condition of the interior

Identifying a 1951 convertible

Yesterday I saw a nice 1951 convertible at our big Vintage car fair here at the Lake Konstanz in Southern Germany.
Car is from Netherlands and the VIN plate states type 200, VIN 2454nnnn.
As far as I could find out this VIN seems to be incorrect as is the type which should be a 250.
Engine seems to be the correct one, but I did not have a look for its number ...

I am looking for a convertible from that era, but I'd prefer a 250 over a butchered up 200 ...

Any hints to clarify what kind of car this really is?

Clemens

Thanks for your replies. Especially the bit about the spacer is very helpful.
There's only one thing that I personally really don't like: These screws.
Just to imagine screwing them into the door lets me cringe. I think I will fix two nuts on a sheet metal strip similiar to the spacer strip and place it inside the door and fix it there.

Still it'll leave me with some new holes Resized Image

Where to put exterior mirrors on a 1947 clipper?

My 1947 Clipper came with exterior mirrors that are not visible from drivers position. Resized Image

So I had a look for a substitue and got a pair of these:

Best picture of a suitable place I've found so far is this:

Question arises: Where is the best place to mount these mirrors?
Is the door panel stable enough to withstand wind drag and the occasional touch by curious folks?
And how do I protect the moulding from being crushed?

Finished the splash panel and wing support. Just have to lend the spot welder from the local blacksmith and weld it together and weld it back in again. Ah yes, painting it prior to installing will be an option

Meanwhile I sheradized the license plate light and took care of two rusted tail light bodies:

and done ...

And the final result after sherardizing. Rust protection at its best.

Inside of the taillight and license plate lamp bodies will be painted white to increase light emitting efficiency.

Just wanting to add the advice: Use proper impact sockets instead of your normal sockets. Even high quality sockets will perish rather fast when used with an impact wrench.

I use my impact wrench quite often when undoing bolts that are frustratingly stubborn or while changing wheels in spring and fall, but am very reluctant to tighten bolts with it.

Thanks for posting. No car for me then ...

What's wrong with the windscreen? Is it made of perspex?

together with HT cables, terminals and covers ...

Unfortunately the ignition coil choose to collapse just after I placed the order, so another delay until the car will be running smoothly again. Resized Image
