Thanks for the information everyone. Since my car is nicely optioned I really don't want to put down a rubber mat or the hogshair carpet that appears to be "correct". I'm going to go with a nice wool carpet throughout in a tan / light brown color when I get to it.

As for the data plate, I'm working with a local printer on a process to restore the original graphics while leaving the existing stamping in place. If it works out, I'll have more information for the forum on it.

Thanks again,
Zach

Fair enough, thank you. I wonder if there is a restoration process for this so as to not lose the original stamping. I'll have to noodle this over once I figure out the carpeting.

So you think the black printing is just gone from this then Owen?

It isn't the patent plate, though I do have a blank one that I could stamp and affix in the proper place.

My data plate is missing; it has some sort of sheet metal stamped with "Berry Motor Cars", the serial number, and a date of 12/25/38. I assume it may have been a Deluxe because it has the fancy ashtrays in the rear arm rests.

Either way I plan to replace the carpeting in both the front and rear.

Hello,

I have been trying to find out what is the correct carpet for my 1939 120 four door touring sedan. It currently has a mottled grey / black loop pile carpet that, frankly, looks cheap. In my research I have found that it likely should be the so-called "hog hair" carpet. Is that accurate?

If so, the next question is color. The car currently has a silver grey interior with a faint houndstooth pattern in the seats, though I would like to replace this with grey leather some day. Should the carpeting match the rest of the upholstered surfaces or would it be appropriate to go slightly darker, perhaps to a charcoal or maybe even a dark brown (to match the dash)? In the 1939 Packard accessory manual it looks like the carpet is darker than the seats but that could be a scanning contrast error.

Thank you,
Zach

Hagerty has my '39 120 insured as a "1939 Packard Series 120", if that helps. See if they will accept it that way, as a Series 160.

I'm sure that is the case. This particular one seems to have been causing the carb to overflow. Replacing this one with a different style needle and replacing the clip (for which there was no accommodation on the hexagonal float) fixed the problem. I have no explanation for it.
