About 4-5 years ago I had the good fortune to have a ride in a P-51 powered by the Packard Engine. It was totally incredible. Packard seems to get little credit these days for what they did. And your right, that plane was highly instrumental in turning the war in Europe.

It sounds like the power steering pump to me.

Mark, I also live in the Seattle area, used to live in Alki and then moved to Bremerton. I have a 54 convertible that has been quite an odyssey getting on the road. Until recently i was working at a mental health agency at Pine and Melrose, just a block from the old Packard agency on Melrose that is now Utrecht Art supplies.
It would be great to meet sometime and swap info. There are to my surprise some competent mechanics and body work facilities over here. I used Murray Motors in Monroe for a complete engine rebuild and they did an awesome job, are very knowledgeable about Packards, and did a lot of head scratching on my engine. It turned out to be quite a challenge.
Be nice to meet sometime and share info.

John

My grandad's 51 had the pot metal louvres, while his 52 had the stainless steel angular ones. My 51 convertible had 3 to a side of the pot metal ones. My neighbors 51 Patrician had the rounded ones but i cant remember if there were 3 or 4. That car was loaded and had the cloisonne caps. I have never seen them on 53 or 54 models

The famous Miranda Rights comes from a man named Miranda who was arrested in a 53 Packard. One of the seniors, I believe.

about 4 years ago i had the great opportunity to ride in a P-51. It was a fund raiser for the Olympic Air Museum in Washington State. It was an incredible experience. We corkscrewed across Lake Washington. Amazing, awesome and the ride of aa lifetime in yet another Packard. That experience pushed me to go to Reno for the air races. again, awesome

another is the 1934 movie, Manhattan Melodrama with Clark Gable, Myrna Loy. A 30-31 packard long wheelbase touring sedan is dropping people off at the cruise ship.

Another is the 1941 Philadelphia Story with Cary Grant and Katerine Hepburn There is a sweet Packard Convertible, either a 160 or a 180.

ONe of Bette Davis early films has her as the body discovered in the trunk of a packard roadster.

But it doesn,t look like a clipper to me. Notice the crease in the lower 12 inches of door and the welting on the back fender in addition to the rubber splash guard. could it be an olds or a buick?
