Thank you all for your suggestions. I am intending on checking the timing again today, the distributor is fully rebuilt including the vacuum advance so it 'should' not be a problem.

In regard to radiator size I had been thinking for a while that it simply needed a bigger unit or maybe a 4 core unit. That has always been the fix on a myriad of other cars I have owned over the years.

I'll update further once I know some more!

Cheers,

Warren

Well its been a while and I have been having great fun trying to sort the overheating...

What I concluded was head gasket. The car would be fine at idle but under driving would heat up. It would then cool off again if I sat idling for a while.

I had already done water pump, new radiator, flushed all the system, checked timing (although its at 6deg BTDC - so maybe reduce?)

So I pulled the head and found leaking at the rear of number eight (rear centre stud was stripped so there was no tension), also leaking between 4,5,6 in the centre and around some of the water galleries.

Anyway its back together and I was wondering if there was a 'magic' procedure for bleeding all the air from the system?

Many thanks,

Warren

Hi there,

My lovely car is missing its centre trim piece from the the front windscreen. Would anyone have a suggestion of where to source one?

I believe the part number is 372169

Many thanks,

Warren

Thank you for the advice. Yes I was surprised to learn it didn't have the 10mm plugs, I wasn't aware they changed them.

Thank you

Hi there,

I have a standard 288 23rd series Eight and was looking for recommendations on what heat range of plug to run.

I currently are running a Champion J8C but I have not had the car long enough to do enough miles to know if it is appropriate.

Any comments welcome.

Cheers,

Warren

Thank you for the information, I thought they may have been reverse lights. They have nothing stamped on them so I suspect they are an aftermarket.

I will have to investigate the switch as they do not operate when I select reverse.

Many thanks!

Warren

Hi there,

After spending some quality time with google I have not been able to find any other photos of the rear of a 49/50 with these two lights. They look like they could be reverse lights? Can anyone shed any 'light' on it?!

Cheers,

Warren
