Lubrication, '39 12, clutch & brake vacuum cylinders

The shop manual is silent on lubrication of these units. However, a lubrication chart published in 1940 by Union Oil Company, recommends the following: "Disconnect vacuum line and inject 2 oz each cylinder every 10,000 miles". The lubricant they suggest is "Homelube," whatever that is. I recently purchased this car. It would not surprise me if the last time this was done, if ever, was before Pearl Harbor. Anyone have comments on whether or not this should even be attempted, and if so, what lubricant should be used? When I Googled, homelube, all that came up were lubes applicable for amorous moments with a partner. I suspect this is not the lube that Union Oil was recommending.

Thank you, Owen. Mine are wrapped in metal. From the outside they look mint, but squeak they do. Based on what you say, I think it's best I learn to love the squeaks. (As I'm 78, I've got a few, myself)

Any ideas as to how to quite them? We've taken the shackles apart and greased them royally, but still the incessant squeaks. It's probably a common problem with aged leaf springs.

Any suggestions how to clean broadcloth upholstery, '39 12?

The interior is excellent original broadcloth, but after vacuuming, I find that it could use a good cleaning. But how and with what? I'd rather leave it as is than chance damaging or compromising it in any way.
Ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Owen. Very good of you to send me the Service Manual. I'll see if i can get more info on the "Special Tool" and get back to you.
Best,
Richard

Hello Owen, many thanks for the data. Just what I needed to know. However, my mechanic tells me that in order to do this adjustment, as you stated, a special Packard tool was required. Thoughts?

To adjust the steering box, the manual cites a specific tool required to perform what appears to be a challenging operation. Does anyone know where one can buy or rent such a long-obsolete implement? If not, are there alternatives?1939 12 steering box

Well... thanks, Mal. However, I can find no way to correct the fact that it's not a Brunn, but the more pedestrian 7 pass touring sedan.
