What also doesn't make sense is...if Capones family bought it...and used it; they probably would have gotten something newer when we got out. I'm sure Capone wouldn't have wanted to be driven in or driving a car that was that old at that time. But, even if he was a Cadillac man...he might have driven other makes of cars to throw off the people watching him (?).

Roman
(Btw; I'm a ''Packard man'' but I drive a 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood! Lol)

I've seen that site...and its really interesting. I like the 'star' system they have as far as the frequency the car was shown in the movie/show.

I hope the group doesn't mind that I posted this...but I just saw an episode of 'Classic Car Restoration' that featured a 1938 Packard 120 Coupe! VERY good episode. It first aired back in 2004, but I caught this on DVR. In this episode, they shows how to clean the original wool upholstery, make and install fender skirts, and how to pinstripe! I always wanted to know how that was done! They also give some history of the Packard plant and show a couple rare factory photos. Check it out if you can!

The next episode will show the completion of the restoration of the 120 and they will also talk about the Packard Proving Grounds!!!!! NEAT!!!

In my opinion, the straight-8's and V12's are smoother than most V8's. V8's need balance shafts and counterweights to make them smooth. V12's and I-8's (if timed right) are inhertley balanced....as are straight-6's. Secondly, as John pointed out in reference to Bugatti, Miller and Duesenberg......Packard was probably aiming at pretige...smoothness and class. There is always even firing on a V12, the pistons therefor balance themselves elimiating extra weight on the crankshaft by adding counter weights.

Portlandon makes a great point! It DOES look alot like a Tucker!

Actually, I look at it THIS way....

I would love nothing more than to buy a NEW Packard....that would be just awesome! I would guess that if Packard was around today, it WOULD be up to the standards, quality and prestige of a Rolls Royce (I didn't say it would look like one)!

SECONDLY, on the other hand;

I think that Packard, (and other Independents like it) have the ''last laugh'' of sorts. Today, Duesenbergs, Packards, Pierce-Arrows and the like are priceless automobiles. They didn't have government regulations, miles of smog control hoses and equipment bogging them down. They didn't have to worry about bad designs and egineering in the 1970's......Packard and the others are for the most part, priceless peices of art...and are treasured for what they WERE. The history and prestege will NEVER go away....unlike Cadillac, Imperial, and others that lost their way. Thats my opinion.
