Farewell to "George" after 50 years.

You may have seen my FaceBook notice regarding my family's decision to sell "George," the name my dad gave to this 1930 Packard Speedster Eight boattail in honor of George Jepson, who sold it to my dad in 1973. This car rarely ever saw a trailer until it was restored for the second time in 1998, and even then, it saw quite a bit of road time on CCCA CARavans, and one stint on the Colorado Grand. Of all the cars I've ever driven, and I've driven a huge variety of all different makes, models, and eras, this car... hand's down ... is the most fun car I've ever driven. It will be a sad and emotional day when it is gone.

Beautiful car but too much scrolling needed due to the long, long URL to be able to read the text.

I'm not understanding. All you need to do is click on the Gooding link.

I think what he is referring to is your original post and the following replies on this forum. The Gooding link is so long that it forces your first post and all following reply posts to widen and spread across what would almost be two side by side monitor screens. In order to see and read all the posts you need to do the side to side scroll he is mentioning.

If you embed links inside your post by highlighting a word or phrase in your text and use the link button to paste and embed the outside URL then whether the link is large or small, they do not affect the original or any of the following posts that might be in the thread on this forum.

West, just a lovely car. And I had the great pleasure of driving it once while George Jepson owned it. The occasion was a July 4th parade in George's hometown, Hillsdale NJ. George drove his 7-34 phaeton and I the roadster. I'd guess this was in the mid 1970s.

It would have been earlier than that, as my dad bought it at the end of 1973.

West,

All good things come to an end eventually. Be forever grateful you got to experience one of Packard's finest for as long as you did. Thanks to your dad and you for being proper conservators of this 734, sharing it with the wider collector car community as much as you did.

Steve

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.
