Two piece driveshaft rebuilding

My 1932 902 has a two piece driveshaft.

Does anyone have any experience rebuilding the center carrier or know of someone who has and can do the job?

The bearings seem worn with plenty of slop, but more importantly the rubber vibration insulating section is all boogered up from age. I don't see how to replace that. The driveshaft runs OK, but there is vibration presumably coming from that center carrier.

Thanks --

You might inquire here and see what they think. They have developed a modern replacement for the almost unobtainium senior Ultramatic front ball and trunion joint several have used with good reviews. They might have an answer for yours if it needs something special.

If your vibration occurs when:

1) Accelerating
2) A little when decelerating

And doesn't when at speed without load or is much less then you have a bad U Joint(s).

Therefore, before rebuilding the support, I would suggest that you give all of your U Joints a through inspection. Any signs of wear means that joint must be replace, which is not an easy proposition. This requires welding a good used joint onto the shaft and then getting it balanced.

One of the joints on my 901 was bad (single driveshaft). I could not find a place that could do the job at a reasonable price. I opted for replacing it with a new driveshaft with modern joints, which was cheaper.
