Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but ring gap should be determined using the ring manufacturer's specifications, correct?
For example, Hastings says.... "The minimum end gap is calculated using a general rule of .004 of an inch per inch of bore. (0.1 mm per 25mm of bore)This general rule is fine for bores from 2.5 inches to 4.5 inches." Too wide a gap is no good, and too narrow is even worse!

I usually use the ring manufacturers specifications. If these are not available, Mahle, Hastings, and Summit offer some good info.
In addition to gap, placement of the gap is important also. us.mahle.com/media/usa/motorsports/2022-ring-minimums-&-instructions-2.pdf hastingspistonrings.com/wp-content/uploa ... /HASTINGS-PERFORMANCE-CATALOG-1.pdf static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/sum-133-m139-00.pdf
