Dear Saffron:
The splash pan situation on 16th series and later Packards never ceases to amaze me because servicability seems to have gone out the window. I did some work on an 18th series car where they very neatly cut the pans in two. Why it took Packard until 1941 to do that mystifies me. Anyway, what you need is a Lisle brand pitman arm puller which you can get at the auto parts store or on Ebay. Good luck

On my '41 180 I disconnected the drag link from the pitman arm & took out a couple shifter links before I could get that *%#@ pan off. ( This was with the car jacked up & supported on jackstands. )

Is there supposed to be a pan on both sides, or just the drivers side? I'm just getting into my '37 115c, and it only has a pan on the left side. I haven't had cause to remove it yet, but I did notice that it looked like it wouldn't be much fun!

There IS one on the Pass. side but it comes off easily.
There is a reason your left pan is still on.

Tim, Are you saying one must cut the pan in half before a puller can be attached?
