Like to flash to PackardInfo and invite him to include his '36 Packard in the Packard Owner's Registry.

In reply to your request attached are some bearing torque specs while head studs are 63 Lbs-Ft. Regarding the distribution tube the water pump and radiator, at least, need to be removed to access it. Think you should be able to finesse it out through the grill louvres. You may also need to raise the block slightly if the front engine mount rubber has sagged to access the lower bolts for the water pump. Do that using a block of wood on top of a jack under the pan to elevate the engine enough to gain the clearance required.

If the car is a senior eight there is no water distribution "tube" just the water distribution baffle that is part of the side cover on the left side of the block. Just remove the side cover, to get it off you will need to remove the oil fill tube.

thanks!! The tube is "D" shaped and looks fragile, cannot get a small rod to go thru the tube to the rear of the motor..water pump is off, motor on stand..afraid I might break it off in the block...bad mojo...

I don't know up to what extend your prewar water distribution tube is different from tubes made after the war. Go this ways to partake in postwar experiences:

With a "D" shaped tube then it's a 120.

Suggest, if the crud holding it in the block still doesn't want to let it loose, after following the advice in the referenced posts, then try a high pressure water cleaner. Will be messy but, being on a stand, you can probably move it to an open area where you can then blast away.
