packardtaximan,
Will be following along with interest. And a quick question: Is placement of the instrument cluster on the firewall, a Packard taxi only feature?

This is the third parts car for this project. The original was rusted beyond saving. The dash was rusted through, the sky could be seen from the inside and even the bumpers were rusted out. When I opened one of the rear doors it fell to the ground with a small section of roof still attached. I've got a lot of work ahead of me and I'm not getting any younger. Thanks for your interest.

I spent today listing, cleaning, and polishing parts. Tomorrow I plan to list, clean, and polish side trim, windows, and splash pans. Fun, fun, fun. I need top replace two wheels that do not have the clips that hold the wheel cover on. I need to know the width of wheel. Thanks for helping.
I am including a couple of pictures of the rear bumper with the luggage rack. How many have seen a 48 Packard with this? Packardtaximan

Quite a project, on a very interesting car. Was this a factory catalogued model with the taxi accessories?
Either way, well worth doing and great to see it underway. Do you have the engine and front bodywork? The chrome work looks fabulous. Brian

Hi Brian, The taxi was factory built to NYC specs. I do have most of what I need to at least assemble the car. I bought this lwb sedan from a estate that had 6 or 7 cars disassembled and the parts were not organised just sort of in piles. Two fellow Packard members and I spent two weekends sorting parts as best we could. The car I bought was filled inside with various 48-50 parts best we could see. After I got the car home, under the top layers there was a wash tub full of V8 nos parts and the bumpers for the48 that had been re-chromed at one point. I gave the V8 parts to one of the guys that had helped sort the parts. He owned a 55 Patrician that his father bought new. Needless to say he was thrilled as some of the parts were rare and expensive. I have a 49 taxi to use for parts as a last resort if I need to.
