Dan's 55 Patrician

This will be the start of my project blog. I've recently purchased a 1955 Packard Patrician which needs a restore.

Paint: V - Onyx
Trim: 62

The car seems to be a good base with which to work. The engine has not started in 10 years so my first goal is to round up supplies to work to turn it over. new plugs, mystery oil, filters, oil etc.

I believe the car originated in Chicago as it has a Chicago Motor club(AAA) sticker on the back window. I know it's been in Phoenix AZ since at least 1991 but am trying to trace it back from there. No bad rust areas and looks like it got some work at a point in the past.

Thanks for reading along and any tips on starting up the dormant engine please let me know.

This will be a sweet ride! An all-black four-door Packard. You could pull up in front of a business, get out wearing a gray Homburg and a black top coat and a scowl and they would give you anything you asked for. It is a formidable vehicle, commanding respect and admiration. I look forward to your blog and hope this site can be of assistance.

Looks like a 56, but maybe it is a super late 55. What does the door number say?

Curious what you're identifying as 56. I don't see anything amiss.

Hank is partly right. The front fenders are 1956 as evidenced by the "eyebrows" over the headlights.
The grille is 1955 however as is the hood, front bumper, rear quarter trim, trunk lid and taillights.

First registered in Oct of 1955. Vin is 5582/10079.

Would be interested in the difference between 'eyebrows' over the headlights vs what you think would be there instead.
any pics?

He's right with an eagle eye and I totally missed it. Here is the difference.

Maybe the previous owner had my taste and changed them out. I know "Beauty is in the eye" etc etc but those 55 headlights were one of two things I always considered unfinished on the 55s. Thankfully, both my gripes were refined on the 56.
