Well I have been reading some of the modified post here on the site and have found that might not agree with some of the mods made on some projects. I would like to say that durring the build of my project, there were no Packards destroyed during any part of my project. In fact many parts and cars have been saved by me as a byproduct of the build.

I hope every one can stay on topic with any comments to this thread. As for the car that was built around the engine in this thread. I really dont like to call it a "rat rod" as the word now days has come to describe a pile of shit. I strive to the best of my abilities and tools at hand to push the engineering of the build beyond that of any rat rod. The is what it is, I built it with very little money at first as it was a divorce project to keep me thinking ahead. as the divorce ran out, the money was more available to do refinements that I felt the car deserved. As with any car a person build, it is never done till the day you sell it. I still own it and it is getting better and better looking in my eye witch is all that matters.

The engine is a 48 Standard 8 block, Heavily worked over. The bottom end is 52 327 rods and crank. I run 6 pounds of boost through it now. As with any engine like this there are lots of bugs to work out, like jetting timming and minor adjustments, but out of the box, the engine is a major contender for power and will only get better with more time.

The pictures are of building the larger blower pully and modifying the dampner to accept the pully.

This plate was cut and welded to the dampner to beef up the bolting sufface for the pully. Then was straightend out on the lathe.

The breaing below were found to have been starving for oil. I did not build this short block. It was perchased from an estate. it was a nice engine with all new bearings and pistons, bored out .030 and all. Bad job on the clean out of the oil passages were the result of the no oil to the rear main and #5 cam bearings. Real glad I got a wild hair to open it back up.

Speed bump gaurd. When I first built the car it sat way low and I didnt want to damage the pan so the gaurd was made. I have since brought the car up and hve just kept it for "In case"

Looks great! I hate to tell you this now, but a Ford 300 6 balancer will fit the Packard straight eights, as well as the performance 302 Ford zero-balance dampeners.

Also, I'd like to chat with you about oiling system modifications, as I'm thinking a full-flow oil conversion will be easy to do by blocking off the outlet on the oil pump and drilling and tapping the pump and the block to accept remote oil filter lines. I also have a few ideas on replacing the oil pump with something a little more easy to find and has a lot more flow.

It's also a little late, but I'm wondering about your engine mounting. The front mount on the '50 and back engines is a pretty good design for what it is, is there a reason why you didn't use it?

I cant get the pictures of the bearings to load so I will move on. After relieving the block it was found there was several bad spots in the lower cooling jacket and the block had 2 cyl. sleeved as a result of the damage to the cooling jacket. It was then decided to junk the block and move on to the 288 block that I knew was good.

The engine has a full flow system on it now. As for the pump. The pump is more than sufficiant to supply even the most modified Packard. I have run sevral flow tests on the pump. It puts out enough volume to supply oil to 2 engines. so making anything else work would gain nothing.
