Hilton Head Car Show

I went to the Hilton Head Car show this past weekend. About a 5 hour drive East from Atlanta. The show is set up for an Auto Auction and Car Club event on Saturday and a Concours show on Sunday. The weather was fantastic and a lot of great cars were shown both days.

Nicola Bulgari was the host of this years event having a personal collection of over 150 cars in the US and in Rome Italy. He brought 6 cars to the event and several of them were unrestored originals.

My favorite was a 1935 Twelve Coupe. A magnifiscent car aging gracefully.

That Packard is in a lovely state of preservation, what a terrific car! Too many fine cars like this end up getting restored (or over-restored) and in the process we we loose a valuable reference as to authenticity. And I for one think it's lines are enhanced by the single rear-mounted spare tire. Just lovely!

Here's a 1928 4-43 Phaeton that was restored over 4 and half years. It was re-acquired by the original owner 48 years after he sold it and meticulously restored.

Nice Color combo and I like the natural look of the wood wheels instead of them being painted body color.

I like his restraint in not putting a lot of gee-gaws on the car, like ridiculous Trippe lights, spot lights, grille-guard, etc., and the color is beautiful. Of course, he should have left the white sidewall tires off in my opinion.

I believe it was the original owner's son who bought the car back, not the original owner himself.

West,

You are absolutely right. It was the owners son. Below is a picture of the car's description card from the show.

In addition, although not a Packard, this Marmon 16 was incredible!

Weren't those Marmon 16s lovely cars!! And that one is a stunning restoration (though I'd rather see a nicely preserved original). Correct or not, great choice of period colors and the blackwalls on chrome wheels is a terrific choice. Curious about the tire make, tread pattern is not familiar to me; anyone know?

West, I completely agree with you about gee-gaws, in most cases an abundance of them, to me, detracts from the car. I recently saw a 54 Plymouth hardtop with every option and accessory available (and them some), so much that it took your eyes away from the car (which perhaps was the intention). Other than sidemount equipment and a radio which were original to the car, I've only given my 34 Eight two accessories, both for improved driveability, a driver's door hinge-pin mounted rear view mirror, and a single Pilot Ray driving light because I do occasionally drive at night and like the extra illumination. My 56 only has a single driver's door rear view mirror, and a traffic light finder courtesy of Randy Berger. Plain steel wheels.

That tire tread looks like Michelin. The same as on the speedster here.
