Arrived at Art Deco Fest and we had two loaners waiting for us:

Brian Taylor's 1947 Clipper Sedan




And

Steve Trot's 1936 Auburn Supercharged Convertible




I'm driving the a Clipper...which is a new adventure for me.

First it's three on a tree, second it's right hand drive, and third, you're shifting with your left hand.

But I think I picked it up pretty quickly. It's just remembering to stay left that sometimes is a challenge.

We had a neighbor with a 1935 Auburn (Supercharged) who gave my dad and me a ride when I was a young teenager. Even young, I was 6' 1" and the seat was designed for two, not three people but it was still fun if not more than a bit too cozy. I always remember him not only shifting the transmission but also shifting the rear end which had several selectable ratios.

The Auburns used Columbia two-speed rear-ends, which is controlled by a slide lever on the steering wheel.

Ford also used Columbia units.

I stayed at his "Batch" when over in NZ for Art Deco and The Top of the South Tour in 2014. Also saw him in Oz at various times.

Attached is a story I authored of the 2014 Top of the South tour which appeared in the Packard Club of Australia's magazine.
