Hey, everybody! My 1949 Deluxe is almost ready to be painted, but I don't know if the firewall was originally painted the colour of the car or if it was gloss black. Any information on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Make sure you get a good paint job on the firewall behind the engine. It take a lot of abuse with the high temperature and various fluids. I have tried to clean that part of thge car up for shows and it is near impossible. I suggest using the very best paint and make sure the metal is very clean and properly prepared.
