Hi
Yes, bright orange and yellow were likely intended only for taxi applications. Though, I suppose if some fellow with questionable taste, a fistful of dollars and an insistent bearing demanded to order his new Custom Super in bright orange, the dealer would swallow hard and acquiesce.....always accommodating to the customer, however misguided! I travel to Germany frequently. Several years ago I noticed that several Chrysler products were selling cars in North America with a color that is very close to the cross between dull yellow and beige (I call it "Buttermilk" but don't know what the Chrysler charts call it) that seems to be the uniform color of German taxi cabs. Somehow, I wonder what the person who paid more than $40K for their Chrysler 300 C would think if they were told it was the color of a Frankfurt cab? Possibly the same reaction in 1947 if there ever was an orange or bright yellow Packard in civilian service.
