Does any one know the weight of the engine and the weight of the Ultramatic transmission from a 1953 Patrician? I am trying determine if my vehicle is able to handle a trailer containing these pieces or if it is underpowered. Thanks for what ever you can tell me.

Its in the Shop Manual, specifications section; 1040 lbs for the engine and Ultramatic combined.

Engine weight from the Nov 1952, Vol 26 #11 Service Counselor. This counselor contains the mechanical specs for all models as built when the 53s were introduced. There is a slight discrepancy with the SM info.

Total weight data is from the 1953 vehicle registration specifications sent to state DMVs. This info was posted by another member elsewhere on the forum..

According to the specifications in the Service Manual, the engine and transmission together weight 1040 lbs. It doesn't say how much each of the components weigh separately.

I have wondered:

What is the weight of just the block?

What is the weight of just the Ultramatic?

I haven't been able to find those numbers anywhere.

According to Ultramatic Dynamics the weight of the tranmission is as follows depending on year:

? 1950-1954 all cast iron 275 lbs.

? 1955 cast/aluminum 220 lbs.

? 1956 all aluminum 180 lbs.

So the 327 in the Cavalier/Patrician weighs:

1040-275=765#

Probably even after one takes off the manifolds, carburetor, starter, generator, fuel pump, water pump and distributor, and takes off the head, it still weighs about 500#
