Yes, 1951-54 is different due to the motor mounts on the side of the block

Another difference is the 48-50 blocks will have provisions for mounting the Electromatic clutch power unit and gearshift linkage idler assy. The casting bosses may still be present just ahead of the oil dipstick but they will not be drilled and tapped on the 51-4 engines.
If you are including all 48-50 engines, the 356 is prewar design with end of production in 50 and a completely different block from the 288/327.
