So, after talking with steel rubber and Max mermett folk, I’m finally able to tell the “professional windows installers” who came to my house to install the front glass in my 1952 door that I do in fact have the right gasket for the exterior chrome trim.

So, after seeing the picture that I will attach from a salesman at max mermaid, am I crazy to think that maybe there’s a Video out there or somewhere somehow I can install this glass myself?

The two guys who came had a small piece of rope, and they have the glass inside the gasket before they start thinking that the trim wasn’t going to work.

I sure could save a buck and try to do this myself. Does anybody have any experience with this?

First of all, you'll need to get all the rust and old paint and goop off the car body in the area where the rubber seal goes, then prime and paint it to make it smooth and slick. Once the paint dries hard, you can proceed.

I (think) the glass and rubber go in first, then the chrome trim and interior trim.

Is a body manual available? (See Literature Archive)

If there is rubber retaining cord somewhere then that area you might need to have the exterior trim attached first.

I’m thinking the chrome trim goes in place first….

I can’t speak specifically for 1950 but generally the trim goes on last but you do need to completely clean and paint the area first as already mentioned.

On the '41-50 cars the trim snaps onto the body first. Don't have my manual near me, but pretty sure you put the glass into the rubber, press it up to the opening from inside the car, then work the lip up over the trim using the standard rope trick.

There's a section in the 23 series shop manual on how to install the windshield glass. I'd have to go down and look what section # it's in but should be on this site.
I'd say you need a spare set of hands at the minimum. The rope is used to pop the gasket over the edge. When I removed mine I had to remove the trim first, so doubt it would be left on during install as the center pieces screw in through the rubber.
