Packard had a very powerful stapler for stapling sheet metal together. I haven't seen anyone have easy access to such a thing as a hobbyist.
I would suggest using tiny self-tappers if that would not present an appearance or mechanical issue. If you have access to the rear of the mating part, you could use stainless steel wire tied in the back—it would look like a staple from the front. But to do that you would have to drill pilot holes in the new material.
