When I removed the interior door panel from the '55 Clipper Super, I found the name "Jesse" scrawled on the door. Any ideas?? No I didn't put it there.. Now I'm wondering what's under the other door panels..

Thats pretty interesting,

How long have you owned the vehicle? could it have been done by a previous owner?

possibly a new or used door that was replaced at one time. The dealer or parts supplier scrolled the customers name on the door for identification when he picked it up or for delivery.

It might have been an inspector with an idle moment having fun with his chalk. Also when I worked at Chyrsler Canada a plant employee who was having a car assembled would quite often use his lunch break to walk around the plant marking door panels with a piece of chalk so that those of us spot welding, for example, would add a few extra welds to that panel. Perhaps this is the reason for the mark?

Thanks for the input guys..I always learn something here!
I took the upholstered panel off of the right rear door and it has what looks like a letter "A" written in orange chalk.
Now I have to vacuum the rust chips out of the door bottom and prep the inside of the door for a coating of POR 15.
Luckily the upholstered panels are in great shape and I can peel them off of the masonite-type backing.

I finally got the chance to get the driver's door panel off to see if it too had the "Jesse" name on it and sure enough..just the same as the back door.
I now think that Clipper 47 has the correct answer.

If you haven't named your car yet, this might be a good time. Seems to me like she's trying to tell you that her name's Jesse, and she's the type of girl that likes to have fun....

That is so hillarious! Last night, I was ripping the back seat out of my '55 400 out and after doing so, I started taking the door panels off. When I did, on the driver side door I see the name "Jesse" and a "$" sign hand written in yellow wax pen! I was wondering about that. Here is a pic of my door.

It was only found on the driver door. Could it be that "Jesse" only worked on the driver side of the assembly line? My vin # is 5587-4766. Is this close to your vin?

Wow!
Welcome to the Jesse family Portlandon!
My VIN # is 5542-5741.
Okay how many other '55 owners have removed their door panels and noticed "Jesse"?
