Last summer i started to use the Freeze-12 in my 56 Executive, 88 Ranger and 73 Impala. These are old R12 systems. Prior to the Freeze-12 i was using R134A. The 134A was much superior in cooling effect than the Freeze-12 which is contrary to what the local "experts" were telling me.
Anyone else have any similar experience???

R134 doesn't cool anywhere near as well as R12 UNLESS the system has been completely revamped to accommodate the different BTU capacity (or lack thereof) of the 134.

I used one of the "dangerous" propane replacements in an R12 system and it was MUCH cooler...and their was nothing wrong with the system when running the R12, I did this as an experiment. Am sold on the benefit of any of the quality hydrocarbon (propane/butane) based drop in replacements. R134's lubricating oil has been reported to cause testicular cancer, while the propane stuff will only freeze your balls off.

Put R22 in it. It runs a LOT cooler and is still easily available. You still need a licence or an insider to get it.

Yup, and it still works on an automotive application, done it before myself and know several others who have done the same. It works great and have had no problems. Just flush it out and change the oil and you'll be fine...

Eric. Does the R22 seem to cool as reasonably well as the R12,134a or other automotive refrigerants???? What kind of oil are u using????

Conversly, maybe use 134a or freeze 12 in household AC????

R22 will freeze you out! I don't remember what oil we used, this was over 10 years ago and in a '76 Dodge pickup. I do know that "Max A/C" was never needed, even on the hottest days.

Very interesting...I was always warned off on using R22 for the reasons I previously stated. Can't help but wonder if there might be some long term issues though...how long did you run it in that truck?

Over 5 years, until the engine died on it.

what is freeze 12? can it be used in an r-12 system? I ask because my 93 dodge has a factory R-12 a/c system, and it needs a partial recharge.

a guy i know is running r-22 and his a/c outlet temp is 38 degrees F.
