Here's an old article out of HotRod magazine about a local Oregon man who raced his '56 Packard.

Here's another copy of the article a little easier to read.

Doesn't mention any problems with the oil pump.

Doesn't mention any problems with the oil pump. It also doesn't mention any mods to the stock pump or oiling system mods other than using mechanical lifters with an Isky E-2 cam. The latter would cut down on the overall oil flow in the engine. Craig

Doesn't mention the soft '55 valve spring retainers allowing the keepers to pull through. Happened to every hard-run early Packard V8 I ever saw.
FWIW, the Isky E2 cam was hardly worth the installation. It had very little additional lift and duration than did the Packard cams. The only advantage would have been if Everett bought the kit with stiffer springs and hardened retainers. Then, he could wind 'er up without fear of a retainer dropping a valve. jack vines
