OD locking up in gear

I have a 55 Clipper with overdrive. It locks up in 2nd and 1st gear, not all the time but frequently. You can pull on the shift handle and it won't budge. No problem with reverse and third. Eventually, after playing with it for awhile, it frees up. I've adjusted the linkage several times to no avail. I'm thinking the problem is in the transmission. Any ideas?
