My dad took out the power valve and the vacume valve?..the one with the spring.

I believe he made a plug for the air horn.

Cause there is one in there.

My question is. Can you leave the one with the spring in. And just remove the power valve. It's a 5/16-24 thread..a bolt needs to be machined down to 9/16ths.

How do you know if the power valve works?. If it's not. Then a lot of gas is being used.

Why my dad took his out. And the engine runs just fine..low speed freeway speeds.

Also. Gaskets lot of rebuild kits out there for the Packard but body gaskets different.. Packard used 4 separate holes. Some are selling like the picture. What's the difference..except to keep fuel on each side.

If I remember right GM used that style base gasket to get heat to bottom of carb. The carbs had iron base with a matching hole guess it was to help wit faster warm up improve cold weather performance
