Thank you. Any ideas on what I should measure to determine if its a "bigger" or "smaller' rear end would be appreciated.

I believe that the only difference for 1953 to 1955 between the smaller (Clipper) and larger (Packard ) models is the driving pinion flange for the universal joint.
The parts books for 1951-54 and 1955-56 Group 12.021 show the same number 446147 for the side gears on all models which would mean that the axle splines are the same even though the axles themselves have differences between the Clipper and Packard models. Lower ratios of 3.23 and 3.07 were more common for Clippers while 3.54 was most often used for Packards.
