I would take the stock rear bumper, section it vertically in the middle to bring the ends of the bumper in flush with the body, and then modify the bracket so there is no gap between the bumper and body. Then you weld the bumper bolt to the inside of bumper, weld-up the holes, and paint the entire thing black. It will then disappear into the body lines, but still be there in-case someone rear-ends you.

If you paint the grille that way, you'll actually be "factory correct", albeit as far as I know, it wasn't in black:
In all honesty, it might look better with BOTH bumpers removed, kinda like the Trevoux Packard race car.

The gold one is decent and square mesh should be easy enough to come by if you wanted it. The wide Packard Hawk opening was derided as a "hoover sucking a rug" "fish mouthed" or "Martha Raye" so don't know what your friends and acquaintances would do to the extra tall & wide open look sans bumper. Almost reminds me of the "planet eater" on an episode of the original Star Trek.

Wow, have we accidentally started a "customization" initiative?
I had not given any thought to removing the FRONT bumper. Hmmmm. Jim G
