I would suggest that you check the small connecting hose is not age/work hardened. If it an old canvas/rubber hose they end up after 50 years of service being almost steel in nature and contribute to broken water elbows and increased engine vibes. No matter what repair method you use on the elbow, I would suggest that you install a new supple hose to the connecting joint. I know this from a similar experience with my 533 and more recently with my 1951 Riley RMB 2.5. Best regards Peter Toet
