David is your stamped with a "R"?
The parts book lists 8 different right regulator assemblies, but only 1 gear is used for all, IF I am looking at the parts book right. 30.418 and 30.428

the bottom of it has "HankcocK" stamped in it, then in more irregularly done stamps, "R" "H" "F", which stands for right hand front I'm guessing. Looking at the unit, there are four metal ears on the sides that look like they could be bent forward, allowing you to remove the upper plate and replace the worn out gear. Of course this assumes that the metal is soft enough to bend without snapping.

here are some more photos. Pat, if you see one at the Packard Museum, please let me know! I'll email you my cell number. The first photo shows the Hancock stamp and the RHF. The second one shows the ears that would have to be bent forward to remove the shaft and main gear. It also shows the stripped gear teeth.
