If the jumper wire test as i outlined above does not solve the problem then my next step would be to try a different battery. Rare, but i've seen two different situations over the years where the battery would develope an internal short or somekind of problem. GOOD enuf to start the car but would not take a charge. Not likely a bad battery of that nature, but not impossible either.
Easier to change battery as a TEST procedure than to start tearing into generators if the jumper wire trick doesn't prove anything. Bottom line: do the EASY things FIRST.

Chek battery cables for tightness and corroosion.
