I think a guy at work has the best idea for bailing out the country as a whole: For every working taxpaying household in the US that makes less than $100,000 a year, give them a huge refund check of $200,000. Take taxes out of it, so when the person gets it, it's only $140,000 or so. Most people will pay off their houses, and the consequential freed up income would enable them to spend more on other things that they normally wouldn't, like a new car. Put a stipulation in there that if they buy a new car, it has to be one of the Big Three's models, no foreign cars. I know that if I didn't have to make my house payment, I'd be driving around in a newer Dodge crew cab diesel, and would be buying all kinds of useless toys and junk that made this country what it is today!
