Max Merritt has Part No. 324171 the Hose (outlet) Elbow for 38-41 6's and 8's.

If it isn't, that's MM's bad. If what they sent you isn't metal, you could take it to a muffler place and have them duplicate it in metal, before you return what you have to MM for a refund. In the Parts Book 35-41, it's listed under section 11.013. The hose segments you need at the top and bottom of the metal elbow are PN 320686, reffed in section 50.670 as 1-3/4 ID 2-1/8 OD and 3" long. NAPA could find hose with those specs for you. You can do this, man, for your smooth running baby.

Bought RHS106A from Max as a kit of top and bottom hoses. Both were rubber. Upper is of substantial wall thickness, lower is very thin

This may not be kosher, but it's under $25. from Summit Racing and may be long enough. Metal is molded inside.

Jwblazek, I replaced my hoses when I redid my rad and I removed the springs from the old hoses by cutting them to get at the springs without distorting them too badly. I took some steel wool and cleaned all the crud off the old springs and then lubed up the inside of the new hose with dish soap and pulled the spring into the new hose by tying a leather thong onto the spring so as not to damage the tube of the new hose. If you twist the spring before it goes into the hose to make it smaller, while pulling on the leather thong from the other end, you can get it nicely inserted into the new elbow with just enough space on both ends to go over the rad barbs. No issues with collapsing and, oh, yes, I DID rinse the soap out really well before installing so I wasn't blowing bubbles out the top of my new radiator!! LOL Chris

Jwblazek, Also, I just took my old hoses down to the local Napa store and got them to match them with same-size hoses that had 90 degree bends and then I just cut them to length to match my old ones. If I remember correctly, they are 1 3/4" ID and the ones they matched me up with were close and didn't need a lot of trimming. Somewhere around $25/hose. then I just had to do the spring-insertion exercise and I was in-biz. Chris.

I'm only guessing, jwb, but that kit is $50 and the metal pipe is $45, so I don't think the curved pipe in the kit could be the same as the single-piece outlet pipe. But even with that metal pipe, you would need that kit.
Let us know what MM says.

Following.....the hose in the pic from MM or Kanter (cant remember) i believe looks like it is rubber?????? i have been through this and ended up paying for a copy of the Packard blue prints of the metal tube, which i plan on taking to a muffler shop to see if they can make one. I would be interested to see if anyone has purchased that "hose" and is it metal or rubber?

Since the car has been out of commission since September, been getting really antsy to get her running again. Up until the engine issue in September, this car was driven whenever the sun was out.Was my Dad's car and he said the car was made to be driven and was my personal goal was to get it back on the road again before Christmas.
I really appreciate all the input on the radiator hose issue. Went down to Rossi's today, a local drivetrain specialist shop, for some fuel and vacuum lines. While their, got talking to the owner about the radiator hose problem and said he had spring material that might work. The material he had is actually used to protect the exterior of hoses from chaffing and he had several sizes, one of which was perfect. After wrestling with this material and the right angle bend hose, using copious amounts of dishwash soap, managed to get the spring in the hose and installed on the car. Refilled the radiator and car popped right over and no issue with the hose. Even took the car for a ride, albeit very short as I did not have front fenders or front bumper on yet, but it ran great and I kind of hit my goal of getting the car back on the road before Christmas. Motor is running the smoothest it ever has and sounds great. I will have the fenders, new hood welting, hood and bumpers on this week so I can take it for a shakedown cruise Thanks again to all the people who offered suggestions. One final comment, Dad always tried t keep the engine compartment clean so he could open the hood at shows. During the rebuild, I completely detailed the engine compartment and chassis from mid car forward, see photo. Final photos later this week. Attach file: (20.48 KB)
