Thanks for adding the photos. Its the typical rather crude modification to older heavy sedans that were still in good enough condition to repurpose for other tasks but had little resale value. This originally five passenger four door sedan likely delivered goods for a grocery, bakery, florist in an urban area in the 1930's - 1940's in its second life. It might also have been a home-built hearse for a small funeral home operation. Motor and Chassis numbers would be helpful to identify model and year of manufacture.

Proud 1953 Clipper Deluxe owner. Thinking about my next Packard, want a Clipper Deluxe Eight, manual shift with overdrive.

My 526 was built in 27. Same choke and spark. If back window is same size as door window its 533, if smaller its 526.its has louvers on hood so its not 443.
I agree had to put spare somewhere with the roads the way they where. If u dont decide to do something with it let me know.thanks.

This an early 1928 526 Sedan. The spark advance and choke knobs above the instruments was done by Packard in the early production of 1928. Later 1928 models had the spark advance and choke mounted below on the instrumentation cluster. It looks like your car does not have a tire well on the front fender. I suspect your car was originally a rear mounted spare from the factory. The rear large door and the side mount was modified at some point. Very interesting car, how long has the been parked? Do you have more photos of the rear door, spare tire holder or other unique features? Thank you for sharing.

Thank you
