If it was a late 37, it could have sat on the lot and was later sold by a dealer who added the heater for a buyer and used a 38 heater. Wasn't uncommon for these to be dealer installed, as even all the way in 54, they were still optional accessories.

That makes sense. I know the 138CDs were added to the lineup later in the model year in 1937. Delivery date of mine is July 8th, 1937. I think the 38 model year started in early September.
