I like it when I drive people standing on the sidewalk, and you hear 'mumble mumble oh, Paaaackaaard' With a touch of doppler effect accenting the packard...Having the name of the car written on the side helps most people identify it.
Also good,
Q:What kind of car is that?
A: Packard.
Q: No, what kind of car, what company?
A: Packard...
In Germany almost everybody then asks how much gas it consumes.

When I am driving or showing my '37 and '47 a remark I hear often is that an uncle, or grandfather, or neighbor, or whomever used to have a Packard and how proud they were of it. I like driving and showing my Packards, they make people smile.

I remember as a kid reading a collector car article that said "If you don't like crowds, don't buy a Cord" - I think this is certainly applicable to just about any Packard. Since we got ours:

1) Two people took pictures of it (one couple posed by it) while at the CT DMV getting registered.

2) Last month, we had a problem with the headgasket. While broken down on the roadside several people stopped to ask about the car, one took a picture, only one or two of ten offered any assistance.

3)My wife calls AAA to tow the car and they ask the make:

"Packard"

"Yes, but who makes it?"

"Packard"

"I don't know what that is..."

"Could you just send a flatbed to XXX...."

But, as someone else said, sometimes people just want to talk, lots of people enjoy the car so it is all in fun.

I am not above the same single finger greeting I used with my Model A Ford when encountering impatient motorists though...

I wasn't driving my Packard but while at the local NAPA store looking for a rear main seal the lady at the counter asked me " Packard, hmm, is that for a tractor?"

Yesterday someone asked as they were driving by, "Is that a real Flying Lady?". I said yes, but that seemed odd to me.

Many people think both the 34 and the 39 are Rolls Royce.

My two favorite things while driving my Patrician was:

#1, "Is that a '57 Chevy??"
#2, "What year is your Cadillac??"

When replied "It's a '56 Packard", I got the usual, "what's a Packard??"

DOH!
