Thank you, Howard. I needed to confirm that. I'm going to rotate the shaft more CCW and reset it so it might take longer to warm up, but send less hot exhaust upwards toward the carb when the engine is at operating temperature.

I have just rebuild carb coming tomorrow from Daytona, but unless the heat control vale is adjusted, I'll have the same problem I'm sure.

As mentioned, the carb has a gasket, a spacer, and another gasket under it. Ross Miller added a heat shield alongside the manifold. Still, it percolated last night.

My son blasted and primed the splash pans I got from Joe Block in Washougal WA. They need some repair, but before I take them to the local body shop, he advised me to be sure they line up correctly. Also I want to get the correct fasteners for them.

Problem is I don't know how or where they are listed in the Parts Book. I read somewhere, probably here, that these pans create a draft that helps cool the engine. Cooling anything these days is increasingly important.

Joe, you are lucky to find those splash pans and they look to be in good condition too. You will need to disconnect the exhaust pipe to install the right-hand pan. Common cap screws and washers will work for fastening them to the car.

Edit: Joe, I think your photo has the pans in their relative positions. The one with the hole on the LH side and the pitman arm will need to be removed to install it. The exhaust pipe is above the RH pan (as I recall). Sorry for the misleading advice on their placement.

Thanks much.

It looks like the long one would go on the passenger side where the exhaust would come down through the large hole? Which end is front? Does anything go through the driver's. side?

Do you know the official name or Section of the '35-'41 Parts Book I might find them? I couldn't find the listing for them in vendor catalogs, either, possibly I don't know what cluster of parts they are associated with.

If anyone has a photo of them installed, it would be a big help.

Any additional info about them would be a help.

Looking at a thread titled "Engine/Fender pan." from 2011, it appears the steering arm has to be pulled on the driver's side to install the left pan.

Tim and West had some advice on that thread. I would very much appreciate any help identifying these 2 parts in the Parts book and any under carriage shots of them installed.

After they are repaired/painted, I'll be taking them to a shop with a lift for installation.

BDeB you are too kind. So they are called Frame to crankcase Splasher Assembly listed in the Engine section. I’ll get the correct fasteners for them. Thank you so much.

Took a few photos trying to crawl under the car and holding the camera in different directions in the dark. Can only do one photo at a time?
