Car Status:

Waiting for Exhaust System to arrive. Supposed to have been shipped today.

Gas Tank dropped off to be Renu'd. Turn around is approx 10 days.

No other work has been done as my schedule hasn't allowed it at the moment. Hope to get into the garage this weekend.

I left the garage sealed up last weekend as it was pouring rain here, and the car is in bare metal. So I wanted to keep as much moist air out of the garage as possible.

I may do some work on the interior this weekend. I want to strip all the old insulation and surface rust off the inside of the roof, and then put on a coat of POR-15 to protect it. Also I have a ding on the roof (BB shot) that need to be removed.

Exhaust system arrive today from Kepich Exhaust (Klasskollection). So far everything looks correct as far as the bends and the length.

Muffler has some wording on it that makes be believe it is a regularly available muffler (not made in house), but not sure. It is a straight thru muffler design.

I still need to buy some exhaust clamps since the tail pipe section comes in two pieces.

If the McCord number on the muffler does not cross to a discount auto parts store book then it is probably an Ag application. My (under the tractor) TO20 muffler looks just like it.

Kevin, your McCord (NORS) muffler looks like the one Kepich sold me for my '47 Custom Clipper. It fit up just right. The sound is nice, but maybe a bit loud for a stock Packard. I understand Kepich buys up old inventory and has a good supply of these NORS mufflers. The one I bought from him for my '37 Six appears to have been made in-house. It too fit up just right, and is quieter than the McCord on the '47.

John, thanks for the info on the muffler. I am always amazed at the amount of NOS, NORS still out there.

On another topic....

Mac's Radiator (Gas Tank Renu place) called and my tank is done and ready for pickup. They originally told me two weeks. Completed in one, gotta love that. Perhaps my tank wasn't as bad as most.

Since the place is close to Bellflower (near LA), I will get up early and make the drive to pick it up on the way to work. Only thing worse than morning traffic is afternoon traffic.

Looks like this will be a busy weekend installing both the exhaust system and tank. Who knows, the Clipper could be driving again by Sunday.

JW writes:

Pretty good indication that it is some kind of Ag or industrial application. But may or may not be any easier nor cheaper to find than from the vintage car dealers.

Edit: corrected name of author of quote.

PackardV8, I wrote that comment, not clipper47. Doubt very much it was an Ag or industrial application.

Tank back.....in black. I guess this is the Johnny Cash version now.

They reported back that the tank was physically in very good shape. Just years of crust built up inside the tank that took media blasting to get out.

The attached a ground wire to the flange on the tank beyond the seal weld. So no danger of leaks, but the sealer inside assures against that anyway.
