Good choice! I always liked that blue..it's a really nice color and it shows the lines off really well..and I especially like that it's the original color. Opinion's vary, but I think for historical purposes, these cars look best and reflect best on both their owners and PMCC when done authentically. +1.

Picked up a quart of Matrix DTM high build primer, and ordered a gallon for the rest of the car as they were out of gallons when I stopped by the paint shop.

With that in hand I was able to get the sun visor panels, center bracket and rear splash panels out of bare metal and into primer.

Regarding metallic. You mentioned a very fine metallic grain. A friend, who restores to Pebble Beach standards, actually strains much of the metallic out of the paint to reach that affect. He usually focuses on prewar cars, where the grain was usually much finer, but if your color is similar to the prewar paint, I'll ask him about his straining process. You actually have to look very closely to his paint jobs to even notice that there's metallic in the paint.

Too many vintage cars that are painted in metallic look like they were sprayed at the local bass boat factory. I applaud you for paying attention to the size of the grain.

No work on the car this weekend, but Gary Osko brought Noel and Peter Toet by for a visit since the are still in the US. Had a nice visit with them and went over the progress I have made on the Clipper. Noel saw the car a couple of years ago when it was still mostly rust and a pipe dream. Peter and I chatted about the transmission work I still have ahead of me. Also Gary dropped off a window seal for the windshield.

Good to hear Noel and Peter were able to meet up with you Kev. Noel certainly would see the significant progress made on the car since his previous visit.

More progress tonight.... lots of blocking on the car and visor and splash panels.

It will take several days to get the entire car blocked and then I can work on any trouble spots that are uncovered.

What have you been doing on the Clipper Kev? Any more progress?
Reading all this has been very educational and fun.

If you are like me Kev, you have probably been blocking for a couple of months, with a brief stop to have your Christmas turkey! The blue is lovely, and sort of regal. Looks like a genuine 1950's colour and smart, not overdone. Your post months ago of the firewall showed it off very well.

I noticed that the Matador Maroon for my '51 had very fine metal. The paint shop even commented when they mixed it, about how fine compared to modern metallic colours and that there was very little metal in the formula.

I've been out of the loop too- the holidays were a big financial hit, and I haven't touched the 48 or posted in my blog since last fall. I imagine Kevin has been in a similar fix, much like many of us!

Boy, you can say that again. My car has accumulated this strange layer of white stuff that gets thicker and thinner all the time.
