Tim, as we talked on a PM, the rubbing block of your points seems to have seated. This would cause the point gap to close which would cause a relative retardation of the timing. Resetting the points and timing restored the performance.

In the old days we would run the distributor on a test machine for several minutes to allow for rubbing block seating, then readjust the points before reinstalling the distributor. If a test machine is not available, run the engine for a few minutes then recheck and reset the points and timing if needed.

Always a good idea to service the distributor out of the car.

hi steve,
i did clean the aftermarket filter, or i should say i replaced it. but i also had to reset the breaker points and timing. and that helped. so, now i have a tank and line cleaning project coming up(which i knew i would have to do)/ so until that happens i will keep a close eye on the disposable fuel filter.
