I drove the car to the upholsterer today in some nasty winds. One of the few times I can remember being thrown around in this car.

I learned some interesting things.

Patrician upholstery had little strips of foam sewn into the fabric. Today that foam is either hard, or sand or gone. Removing the original material and resewing in foam is not cost sensible.

A complete interior would be about $5,000 plus parts. Using SMS cloth is said to add roughly $2000 and adds as much as 18 months wait for the cloth.

Redoing the windlace also means a new headliner because mine is fragile with rot in spots. Did not get a price on labor.

What he can do for me is remove and repad the front seat, fixing the rip in the "doeskin" chevron. That means removing the original upholstery, repadding the seat along with any needed retying, rewebbing and such. Cost to be $500; takes a day or two.
