According to my AC plug book (1976) the AC 45R is a 14 mm with heat range medium. The "R" indicates "Resistor (Sport Vehicle Plug)".
THe AC book does not indicate any thread length less than 3/8 for 14mm plugs. If there is one i'd like to know what it is.

Note that in addition to an AC 45R there is also a more common (orshould be more common) R45.
According to the book BOTH are Resistor plugs. The only diferentiation between prefix R and suffix R is that PREfix R is simply "REsistor" while suffix R is "Resistor (Sport Vehicl Plug)". No further explanation is given but a reasonable and sober plausibility argument mite be that the SUFfix R plug is for magneto ignitions (ala 'sport vehicles') as opposed to PREfix R for battery powered iginition. Could be other reasons but won't go into it at this point.

I bought a partially used spool from eBay a couple of years ago. Also I Brillman is a company that sells the wire by the foot.

Thanks for the link!!! Thats a good deal, too... I'm gonna ask around at the local hot rod meet, see if anybody wants to go in so we can get 100ft or more to get the best deal. That works out to about 17.50 a car! Sweet!!!

Holy Cow!!!!!! It's like a new car!!! Sac Vintage Ford waas out of the red wire, but the guy at the counter did me one better and found some really nice copper core, cloth covered wire (in green and black to match the car) and a set of Rajas! I just installed them, and the Champion J8C plugs... What a difference! It started as soon as I touched the button, and has all the acceleration I could ever want in every gear, even overdrive! And thats without even touching the timing yet.... But of coarse as soon as I get into it I look at the clock and its time to go again. Oh well, at least I know she runs like a top now!
