Eric, I didn't mean to provoke controversy, but my experiences with my 34 Eight with Pines Winterfront pretty much parallel DavidM's. I have a 160 degree Sylphon shutterstat and in tens of thousands of miles the car has RARELY exceeded 160 degrees and then only long uphill climbs on very hot days, around 95 or hotter, where it might creep up towards 170.

That's my point, it essentially functions the same as a modern thermostat.
