FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WILL YOU PLEASE CHECK FOR AN EXHAUST LEAK?
seriously though, how's this turning out? Timing off? Pinging from bad fuel? Oil filler tube in the wrong way? What was the solution?

Maybe there's a mouse in there banging two walnut shells together. I would have guessed a coconut shell, but I don't see how a Swallow could fit through any of the openings in the engine.
And NO, I don't know if it would have been an African or European swallow...

Like cortcomp, I'd suggest investigate for the exhaust leak. I had a ticking noise in my 327 L8 that changed frequency and pitch with engine rpm and the solution was a new O ring gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe. I could never understand how that Packard "expert" tied a ticking noise in the engine to exhaust leak. I thought it was a valve lifter. Still don't get it, but the 51 Patrician 400 purrs like a kitten.

It looks as if the poster has left the building. Suggest we wait for his return to learn if any of our suggestions are working.
