"...It's been slammed as ugly, intrusive and revealed to be one of the most expensive public transport systems in the world..." quotation source: www.dailytelegraph.com.au

Monorails have been a temporary fashion and 20 years later the populace will probably talk about the most charming way to skywalk the city. It comes in waves.

Very cool with two Caribbean engines and senior instrument panels with the speedos replaced with tachs...

Ross, not all speedos had been replaced. There seems to had been a third panel (on top) - mounting screws green marked. Click to enlarge.

Guscha -

Thanks for an enlightening and entertaining sidebar on the fringe of Packard history! I'd never heard/read of this Texas Trailblazer (and its Packard connection) before. It's another testament to the mighty Packard V8.

BTW, anyone else recognize the guy in the white hat in the second pic in post #18? (No connection to the time-travelling train robber shown above.)

Sad end to that monorail. Amazing that anything of it survived, but a shame it didn't wind up, intact, at a museum somewhere.

Yet, the "Trail" doesn't end there. I found that the manufacturer went on to develop other systems here in America - proof that it's a small world (after all).

The Houston Chronicle archive stores an interesting article that confirms Brian's and Dave's discovery. Roy Rogers has been one of the first passengers in one of the worldwide first monorails. Well, the Germans ...
