Great point about extending the heater box forward. That'll work on the V8's yes. But, if that V8 valve cover ever needs to come off the entire extended heater box would most likely have to be removed.
I went out and measured. The top of the valve cover clears the bottom of the heater box by less than 3/4 of an inch. (i have new motor mounts).

Also note that the stock blower motor was designed to run in cold or cool weather. Not hot summer time up next to the engine or under the hood. Mite need to route somekind of refrigerated air to the blower motor like modern cars use with that little "L" shaped rubber hose running to the external end or side of the blower motor.

Good tip on leaving the hidden screws out of the heater box. I think i did that too a few years ago when i had it off for a valve job.

Also, if the heater box is extended FORWARD then most likely somekind of support bracket near centre or front of extended heater box will be needed.

Yeah, on a V8 car a support bracket to the fenderwell would be recommended.
As for the blower motor, quite correct. I plan on using something a little more modern and efficient on my system.

Eric. Does your car have the headliner installed??? A few weeks ago the AC was discussed in another thread and i think it was HH56 indicated insulating the roof would be most beneficial.
I'm trying to come up with some way to blow in or foam in insulation thru the sunvizor holes and the rear courtesy lite hole.

No headliner, but it does have the original sound deadening material still, which will eventually come out to be replaced with something more modern and less messy. Something like Dynamat would work great.
As for spray in foam, I think that would make a bigger mess than it's worth.
