And there are some people who have mounted the switch on the floor in front of the battery box so the lever is near the seat front edge. I think depending on model the lever winds up out of sight just under the seat edge but still easy to reach or just in front exposed but still out of the way and not an obstruction. Am fairly sure there are some photos of the floor install on site but can't remember the cars or who posted them right now. Maybe someone else can direct you to those photos.

Ok thanks…got everything figured out except the panel switch…I have it all wired correct ..it is getting power from the light switch..the only issue is the panel lights and clock light which are all on same wire do not work when pulling the panel switch on ..the reading light which is on a different terminal on the panel switch comes on when pulling to 3rd and last position..this is correct..for some reason I get no voltage to the panel and clock lights when l switch is is pulled on to first or second position…I know the light switch needs to on before the panel switch will operate…when I push the panel switch in all the way to the off position I get the 6 volts to panel lights and clock light but the bulb does not illuminate….assuming the panel switch may be bad? I have not reached up and removed the panel bulbs but assuming they are good….any thoughts? Tks

It’s the pull out kind…I got it working ..loose contact at ground under dash! Tested everything and in working order back to 6v specs…I got voltage and good ground to clock but it’s not working…I’m sure that broke a long time ago…thanks for all the help everyone!,,

I believe that prior to the 24th series instrument lights had a separate switch. They were powered from the headlight switch so operated only when that was on. In some years or models the instrument bulbs were infinitely variable by turning a rheostat and in other years they had discrete brightness levels where they were just on or in some instances a rotary or push pull switch also selected a fixed resistor for two or three briteness levels. With the 24th series onward they combined the instrument light rheostat with the headlight switch and as an extra added attraction they also provided in the headlight switch an on/off function for the driver to control some of the courtesy lights. Which set of bulbs were controlled was determined by the direction the knob was turned.

The the 54 you turn it one way to make the dash light brighter. Turn fully thr other way, the dash lights go out, and the dome light comes on.

Yes that is how my 41 works…headlight switch needs to on for panel light switch to operate…instrument lights have a low and high with first two pulls of the switch..the last pull turns on reading light
