I believe the last registered owner can apply for a replacement title if the original is lost.

well, to update the packard, if anyone is interested,
serial number- 5682-3099, paint code V- trim code-79. is anyway to research the serial#, break down the numbers? found some but not all of the chrome trim in the trunk. no grille, its still shiney under the car, no damage. the interior is imaculate for its age, headliner is perfect. on battery power all electrical works so far, lights signals, dash and gauges appear to work, power antenna, havent got the windows to work, probably a relay? drained water out of the oil pan, lol it probably wont turn over. im gonna give it a try tho!

Download Service Counselor Vol 29 #13 for all the specspackardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/SC/SC-VOL29NO13.pdf but here is the first page with some of the numbers. 5682 is the 4 door Packard sedan or Patrician as it's more commonly known. 3099 is the sequence in production for that model starting, I believe, at 1001.
The model Info section on the left of screen menu also has information to help decode as well as links to various literature on site. Trim codes can be deciphered in either the parts manual or there is a upholstery book for the 56 showing various combinations. The power windows have a circuit breaker and a relay mounted on the top edge of firewall near the wiper motor. Power comes directly from starter solenoid bat terminal and relay is switched by ign key on. If the car has power door locks, there will be a second relay mounted there.

Sorry, most of us have become familiar with that designation after my years of badgering to collect that data. Despite their popularity, it's been quite difficult to gather much data on the V8 models. It's the large embossed number on the engine-side of the cowl, just above the heater box, and enclosed by trianges. Should be a "C" or "D" followed by 5 digits, for example C55555. If there is a digit "1", it will appear as an upper-case I.
