Not related to electrical issue but to rapid temperature pull down:
Check the Ranko valve in the heater system. These can go bad and hang open. Mine hangs open just a little allows for some heater heat to enter car. Everyone wants to rebuild / replace the Ranko valves as if they were some kind of a shrine or something. I just put a common houshold plumbing shut off valve spliced into the heater hose. When it is OFF i KNOW it is OFF, especialy in the hot summer time.

The set up on my 56 Exec is all a junk yard scavenge. 85'ish toyota pump/condenser coupled to a 1958'ish Mark IV Evap. It works just fine.
Maybe post some pics of your set up some time and let us know what brand it is.
